Being in the heart of Southern Florida allows us to understand how nice it is to be out on the water, enjoying the sunshine on a boat. While many people believe that your homeowners insurance will cover a boat, this depends on the type of boat and your homeowners insurance. A boat is similar to a car, in that it can be transported anywhere meaning it generally will require a separate policy.
The State of Florida does not require boat insurance, as it does car insurance but many lenders do require the boat to be insured until the loan is paid off. This is important to keep in mind, as well as, the importance of protecting yourself and your family while enjoying time on a boat. You never know when an accident could occur. While Florida does not require you to have boater’s insurance, it may be required if you still have a loan on the boat. The lender may have specific rules
A boat insurance policy typically covers the following:
- Damage resulting from collision, fire, lightning, theft, and vandalism
- Damage to the boat itself, the machinery, fitting, auxiliary equipment, and even boat trailers.
- Liability coverage for damages to someone else’s property
- Liability coverage for yourself, guests, and the other party involved in the accident/
